The weather forecast is as dependable as someone committing to doing something when they are hammered. You know very well the person committing will have no clue what they said last night.
But some part of you, maybe a quarter of an inch of your brain, might believe that maybe, and that’s a very tiny possibility, the person remembers words coming out of their mouth, while they were drowning in the poison.
Weather forecasts have improved by miles in recent times, but forecasting the weather developments of a city with pinpoint accuracy regarding its spatial and temporal aspects is still challenging.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has been found wanting this summer in forecasting Delhi’s weather. Earlier this month, everyone was caught off guard, including the weather department, when a gale reaching 80 Km/hr hit the city.
In IMD’s defence, they did manage to predict a storm brewing,but were way off the mark when it came to the storm’s intensity
This led to disruption in air traffic, and people were swept off their feet by the storm, leaving IMD embarrassed as the premier weather forecast organisation in the country appeared to be out of its depth.
